All of it was the Earth as it was meant to be. Even as I type these words now, I'm still lost in that fairy-tale rainforest—pushing my limits, feeling the rawness of nature. The thrill and charm of adventure stay with you for a long, long time.

Mengyuan Wonderland | Feeling the Raw Magic
Gathered with a few close friends, we set off on this fairy-tale rainforest journey. We slept in lightweight luxury tents where you can see the stars, had a barbecue party on a gorgeous lawn, explored the fantastical beauty of ancient limestone caves, and encountered the natural wonders of the tropical rainforest. We trekked and waded upstream for six kilometers—adults and kids alike went absolutely wild. We even challenged the via ferrata we'd always been too scared to try. With safety measures throughout and experienced guides, the thrill of scaling cliff faces is an experience you won't find just anywhere. Let me start with a lovely hand-drawn map—the cute art style is sure to win over kids. It suddenly hit me that this place would be perfect for a youth science summer camp. Our guide Pineapple said calmly, "Oh, we've been doing that for ages."
When you come to Xishuangbanna, you absolutely cannot miss a treasure spot like this. Located within the Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve, it's a key part of the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Programme. Sitting at 21°N, it's one of the areas in China with the highest negative oxygen ion levels—a true wellness paradise with ideal climate. The forests of Mengyuan Wonderland hold the Earth's treasure trove of resources. The countless plants and animals really open your eyes. The kids in our group clung to the guide, listening spellbound. When Pangpang gets a bit older, I'm definitely bringing him back here to feel the Earth's most authentic beauty.

Science Adventure | Crossing the Tropical Rainforest
The Mengyuan Wonderland tropical rainforest is a unique limestone seasonal rainforest. The entire forest grows on karst low hills of limestone, creating a landscape of "forest above, stone forest below"—rich and captivating.
This rainforest is home to countless plants and animals. Adults and kids alike become explorers, searching intently for interesting creatures, exotic flowers and plants, venomous snakes and wild beasts—everyone's journey brings different discoveries. Towering trees, tangled vines and epiphytes form a three-dimensional aerial garden. Looking up, sunlight can't even break through—dense green leaves and vines twist and interweave. Only in a rainforest can you see this many plant species. The rich variety of plants provides food and shelter for animals, making tropical rainforests the most species-rich regions on Earth.
You can follow the ticket-recommended route for a walking tour, or go deeper and explore the stream-trekking rainforest. Before crossing the rainforest on foot, just change into the liberation shoes provided by the scenic area (25 yuan) and you're ready to follow your guide. We walked through muddy mountain trails, crossed streams of varying depths, ducked under fallen trees—the whole way was full of fun and adventure, like something out of a Bear Grylls expedition. The full crossing route is about 17 kilometers: 2 kilometers of rainforest walking on paved paths within the scenic area (no difficulty), 6 kilometers of rainforest crossing to conquer and explore the unknown, and a 9-kilometer pickup truck ride at the end. On the truck ride back, we got caught in a sudden downpour—bouncing along at speed, it was unbelievably thrilling!
In the tropical rainforest, there are countless beautiful sights worth pausing for. Being able to explore safely in a dangerous rainforest—it feels great. Our guide Pineapple kept finding interesting edible plants for us—sour, astringent, sweet—we tasted the flavors of the primeval forest!
The kids loved wading through the streams most of all. The cool river water was a bit muddy from the rain, which added some challenge to our journey. Everyone carefully helped each other across, holding hands and watching every step. Don't get too complacent—even a shallow stream can send you tumbling if you're not careful. The kids splashed each other, crystal droplets glittering in the sunlight—under the shade of trees, in the sunshine, soaking in the enchanting rainforest scenery.
This primeval forest isn't as unknown as you'd think—plenty of celebrities and TV shows have filmed here. Wang Han's "Wild Kitchen" team prepared their wildest meal here. Zhou Dongyu and Huang Zitao filmed "Tiny Pursuit" here. Zhao Wei held her production kickoff ceremony here. Ma Yili shot a fashion editorial here. The rainforest's charm is irresistible, gradually lifting its mysterious veil for us.
Warning ⚠️ The plant in the photo below is extremely dangerous—they say even the wild elephants migrating through Yunnan won't touch it!
The Millennium King Tree is over a thousand years old and is worshipped as a sacred tree by the local Dai people. They say prayers here are especially effective. This is also where the trekking route begins!
Cave Secret Realm | Exploring Stalactites
Past the Couple's Tree, the mysterious entrance to Baojiao Niu Cave appeared before us wreathed in mist—it really had that fairyland atmosphere!
The cave maintains a constant 21°C year-round and is called "Eternal Spring"—perfect for cave exploration. Baojiao Niu Cave is the centerpiece, surrounded by countless uncharted caves. In the darkness: bat colonies, unknown blind spiders, wild cave fish, and more. This adventurous and fascinating science journey is what kids love most!
Stalactites and stalagmites are called "recorders of ancient climate" and "millennium thermometers." Here you'll find stalactites formed over hundreds of millions of years in every imaginable shape—some like galloping horses, some like marching elephants, some like cranes dancing at dawn, some like terraced fields formed over ten thousand years, some like Buddha's seal, and some like the footprints left by Buddha himself. There are countless rugged caves of all sizes—every step reveals a new world, showcasing nature's incredible craftsmanship.
Baojiao Niu Cave features spectacular karst limestone scenery. It's also one of the few cave therapy destinations in China, with an underground river that never runs dry and a secret cave realm. The scenic area uses lighting and digital interactive projections to bring the natural wonders and cultural stories to life. Through four themes—Forces of Nature, Dreamscape of Time and Space, Facing Your Inner Self, and Returning to Authenticity—lighting, sound, 3D, and projection technologies combine the legend of Baojiao Niu, palm-leaf scriptures, the Dai four elements and five aggregates, ancient rock paintings, and the Peacock Princess. The focus is on culture and sightseeing. Stay safe while exploring, and don't touch or damage the stalactites.
