About Tiger Hill
Tiger Hill is a small hill (36 meters high) with a history spanning 2,500 years, named for its resemblance to a crouching tiger. The hill's most famous feature is the Yunyan Pagoda, built in 961 during the Song Dynasty, which tilts slightly to one side — earning it the nickname "China's Leaning Tower of Pisa." The pagoda has survived earthquakes and wars, and its tilt has been monitored and stabilized over the centuries.
Beyond the pagoda, Tiger Hill is filled with historical sites and legends. The Sword Pool, a narrow gorge with steep cliffs, is said to contain the swords buried with King Helu of Wu. The hill also features temples, gardens, and springs, each with its own story. The famous poet Su Shi once wrote: "It is a lifelong pity not to have visited Tiger Hill when in Suzhou."
