About Zhongshan Bridge
Zhongshan Bridge (Iron Bridge) is Lanzhou's most iconic landmark, a 1907 iron bridge spanning the Yellow River in the center of the city. Built by German engineers with materials shipped from Germany, it was the first permanent bridge over the Yellow River — China's "mother river" — and remains in use today as a pedestrian bridge.
The bridge is 233 meters long and features elegant iron trusses that reflect early 20th-century engineering. It's especially beautiful at night when illuminated with colorful lights that reflect in the river below. The bridge connects the south bank (city center) with White Pagoda Mountain on the north bank, making it a natural starting point for exploring both sides of the river. The surrounding riverside park is popular with locals for evening strolls.
