About Elephant Trunk Hill
Elephant Trunk Hill is Guilin's most iconic landmark, a natural rock formation at the confluence of the Li River and Peach Blossom River that resembles an elephant drinking water with its trunk submerged in the river. The formation has become the symbol of Guilin, appearing on postcards, souvenirs, and promotional materials.
The hill stands 55 meters tall and can be climbed via steps to a small pavilion at the top offering views of the rivers and city. Between the "trunk" and "body" of the elephant is a natural cave called Moon Eye, which frames a view of the river when seen from certain angles. The site is particularly beautiful at sunset when the rock is illuminated by golden light. The surrounding park includes gardens, a small temple, and viewing platforms.
