About Orange Island
Orange Island is a long island in the Xiang River, stretching 5 kilometers from north to south. The island is named for the orange trees that once covered it, and today it's a popular park with walking paths, gardens, and cultural exhibits. The island's most famous feature is the massive sculpture of young Mao Zedong at the southern end — a 32-meter-tall head sculpture carved into the cliff face.
The island offers a pleasant escape from the city, with tree-lined paths, flower gardens, and views of the Xiang River and Changsha skyline. The sightseeing train runs the length of the island, stopping at various points of interest. In summer, the island hosts fireworks displays on Saturday evenings. The island is particularly popular with locals for weekend strolls and family outings.
