Zhangjiajie Eternal Love: A Breathtaking Show That Brings Zhangjiajie’s Scenery and Western Hunan Culture to the Stage

This is my third trip to Zhangjiajie. Before, I came to soak in the natural scenery of the national forest park. This time, I headed to the Zhangjiajie Eternal Love scenic area to experience a different side of the region…
The entrance is as grand as ever, with rows of totem poles carved with birds and beasts lining both sides. At the center stands a majestic statue of the Eternal Love goddess, radiating grace and elegance.
Zhangjiajie Eternal Love has fully embraced local folk culture, giving it a rich ethnic charm—something you can feel the moment you catch your first glimpse from the entrance.
Located within the Wulingyuan Scenic Area, the Zhangjiajie Eternal Love park is made up of four themed zones: Dayong Ancient Street, Taoyuan秘境 (Taoyuan Secret Realm), Lovers’ Sea, and the Rotten Apple Family Park. It’s a place where all ages can have fun, rain or shine.
On Dayong Ancient Street, you’ll find a cluster of intangible cultural heritage workshops and handicraft stalls, offering a close-up look at the magic of traditional crafts. Inside Taoyuan Secret Realm, high-tech attractions like the Corpse-Chasing Haunted House and the Chiyou Wind-and-Rain Storm Pavilion keep the surprises coming.
Lovers’ Sea features Lovers’ Bridge, Lovers’ Harbor, and Silver Beach—perfect for young couples looking to unwind. The Rotten Apple Family Park has Jungle Adventure, a carousel, a soft-play zone, bumper cars, and a Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival movie hall, so the whole family can get in on the fun.
The park spans 146.9 acres and sits on Baihuazhou in Suoxiyu Subdistrict, Wulingyuan. It borders Zhangqing Highway to the south and the Suoxi River to the north, just a five-minute drive from the core Wulingyuan scenic spots, Baofeng Lake, and Huanglong Cave. The location couldn’t be better!
Zhangjiajie Eternal Love blends the region’s natural beauty with its deep-rooted local culture. As you marvel at the wonders of Zhangjiajie, you also get to experience the raw, mysterious, and humanistic charm of both ancient and contemporary Zhangjiajie.
Beyond the rides and attractions, the food scene here is a feast in its own right. Even a simple bowl of cold noodles will leave you craving more long after you’ve finished.
Before heading in, make sure to grab a show schedule at the visitor center. The real highlight of the Eternal Love park is the series of performances staged throughout the day—each one is a showstopper. Times shift daily depending on the schedule of the main Eternal Love performance, and next up for us was the theater show itself.
The performance uses cutting-edge technology like VR and AR to transport visitors across tens of thousands of years, delivering a grand song-and-dance production, Zhangjiajie Eternal Love, that perfectly matches the region’s awe-inspiring peaks and waters.
With dreamlike stagecraft, the show unfolds Zhangjiajie’s past and present in a three-dimensional space spanning water, land, and air, drawing the audience into a cultural spectacle and a soul-stirring journey.
The full performance is divided into segments: “Sea Changes,” “Wuling Fairyland,” “The Legend of Tianzi Mountain,” “Tales of a Small Town,” “The Mulberry Tree,” and “Love in Western Hunan,” condensing Zhangjiajie’s billions of years of history, culture, and legend.
Prologue: “Sea Changes”
Wulingyuan in Zhangjiajie sits at 30° north latitude. Some 380 million years ago, intense mountain-building movements, tectonic uplift, and water erosion thrust thousands of jagged peaks skyward, carving out the breathtaking beauty we see today. These 3,000 odd peaks became a cradle of civilization, where humans thrived and gave rise to the brilliant Dayong culture.
Scene One: “Wuling Fairyland”
“Spring brings peach blossoms everywhere, and you can’t tell where the immortal source lies.” Wulingyuan is said to be the inspiration for the Eastern Jin poet Tao Yuanming’s “Peach Blossom Spring.” The spirit of the water, the allure of the flowers, the beauty of the people—let’s step into this fairyland together, listen to the murmur of the streams, and follow the scent of blossoms.
Scene Two: “The Legend of Tianzi Mountain”
“Whoever has seen the face of Tianzi will return home with no desire to see other mountains.” The world-famous Tianzi Mountain is tied to a Tujia folk legend. In the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties, under oppressive imperial rule, the people suffered greatly. To fight back, Tujia leader Xiang Dakun rallied his men to resist.
Scene Three: “Tales of a Small Town”
In the small Western Hunan towns immortalized by Shen Congwen, days begin with the company of streams and nights end with fireflies. A river in spring, a boatman’s song, a single glance, endless longing—this is the poetic essence of Western Hunan.
Scene Four: “The Mulberry Tree”
Zhangjiajie is a land of revolutionary spirit, the hometown of Marshal He Long, and the starting point of the Red Second Front Army’s Long March. In those war-torn years, Western Hunan’s men stepped forward, one after another, to join the revolutionary cause. The farewells under the mulberry tree became memories the women of Western Hunan would never forget.
Epilogue: “Love in Western Hunan”
The women of Western Hunan are full of passion, and its heroes are legion. Beautiful stories gather here, and songs of valor echo through the ages. Perseverance and responsibility, great love and devotion—these values have shaped generations of Zhangjiajie’s people. This is a world of beauty, a land of love and wonder: Zhangjiajie.
The show harnesses advanced sound, light, and electrical effects to create jaw-dropping, gravity-defying visuals that keep the audience fully immersed, as if swept into another world.
Watching this performance, you’ll feel like you’re living through nature’s masterpieces—the kaleidoscopic undersea world, the ethereal Wuling Fairyland, and the awe-inspiring sight of a thousand tons of floodwater thundering down in an instant. It’s absolutely staggering.
Karst landforms, yardang landforms, lava landforms, danxia landforms—these exist in many corners of the world. But Zhangjiajie’s unique landform exists only here. To bring that extraordinary scenery onto the stage, to sing the timeless legends of the Xiaoxiang region in a three-dimensional, mysterious space, and to put the ancient, enigmatic culture of Western Hunan in the spotlight—all while guiding you toward the peach blossom spring in your own heart—that’s what Zhangjiajie Eternal Love is all about. And it’s pure magic.
