About Zhangjiajie National Forest Park
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is the crown jewel of the Wulingyuan Scenic Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its over 3,000 quartz-sandstone pillars that rise vertically from forested valleys. These dramatic formations, some reaching over 200 meters in height, inspired the floating Hallelujah Mountains in the movie Avatar.
The park covers 4,810 hectares and features multiple scenic areas, including Yuanjiajie (where the "Avatar Hallelujah Mountain" is located), Tianzishan, and Golden Whip Stream. Visitors can explore via hiking trails, cable cars, and the world's tallest outdoor elevator (Bailong Elevator). The pillars are most dramatic when shrouded in mist, creating an ethereal landscape that seems to defy gravity. Monkeys are common throughout the park, adding to the sense of being in another world.
