About Xiamen University

Xiamen University is consistently ranked as the most beautiful university campus in China, and for good reason. Founded in 1921 by the famous overseas Chinese leader Tan Kah Kee, the campus was designed to blend Chinese traditional architecture with the natural beauty of its coastal setting. The result is a campus of traditional buildings with upturned eaves and red columns, set among lakes, banyan trees, and views of the sea.

The campus covers over 3 square kilometers on the coast, with buildings arranged aroundθŠ™θ“‰ζΉ– (Furong Lake) and connected by tree-lined paths. TheθŠ™θ“‰ιš§ι“ (Furong Tunnel), a 1-kilometer underground passage, has become famous for its student-created graffiti and murals. The university's location β€” with the sea on one side and mountains on the other β€” creates an atmosphere of scholarly tranquility that has inspired generations of students.
