About Guangji Gate
Guangji Gate is the last surviving gate of ancient Chaozhou's city wall, a massive stone structure built in 1370 during the Ming Dynasty. For over 600 years, this gate has witnessed the comings and goings of merchants, scholars, and soldiers, surviving wars and modernization that destroyed the rest of the city wall.
The gate consists of a massive stone archway with a traditional Chinese gate tower on top. Visitors can climb to the tower for panoramic views of the old city, the Han River, and Guangji Bridge (the world's first openable bridge). The gate is particularly beautiful at night when it's illuminated, casting a warm glow over the historic area. It stands as a symbol of Chaozhou's enduring cultural heritage.
